Yes, to complete the application you must include a CV, even when applying through job boards or social media (e.g. LinkedIn). This is so that we have all the information and can make a fair decision based on your experience.

No, once you have created a profile you can re-use it and update it as you wish, you will need to use your profile when applying for different roles.

The majority of our vacancies are advertised for two weeks, the closing date will be listed on the job advert, and it closes at midnight on that date. Due to the number of applications we receive we may close vacancies early, but this will always be mentioned on the job advert.

You will receive an automated notification stating that your application has been received. You will then be contacted if you are selected for consideration by the recruitment team or the hiring manager. If unsuccessful you will receive an email informing you of this, but no feedback will be provided at the shortlisting stage due to volume of applicants.

We get a lot of applications for the positions we advertise; therefore, it may take us up to ten weeks before we contact you via email about your application.

This means that you haven’t completed a full five-year work history, if you leave a gap the system will not accept your application. If at any point in those five years you weren’t working, you need to enter a line with a description of what you were doing.

There are four main requirements to become a trainee driver that we screen for:

• You need to be over 20 years of age, at the time of your application to become a Trainee Driver.
• You need to live within 60 minutes of the driver depot advertised via public transport at the time of your application.
• If you have failed the Trainee Driver OPC testing twice before in your lifetime, you will not be able to sit this again, also if you have tested to become a trainee driver within the last six months, you are not able to re-apply until after that six-month period.

We utilise competency questions throughout our recruitment process, we recommend using the STAR method to prepare in the best way possible and formulate those answers to difficult questions.

Firstly, you start by applying for the role you are interested in, the recruitment team then receive your application. They then compare your skills and expertise with the requirements of the position for which you have applied, alongside other relevant positions. If they feel that your skills match what they are looking for, they will pass your application onto the hiring manager who will make the final decision on whether you are progressed or not.

If successful at the shortlisting stage, you will then be invited to assessment or interview. This varies from role to role, but mostly consists of two stages, one focused on competency and questions, the other involving a task or assessment.

Once you have interviewed, you will receive an update from the recruitment team or hiring manager informing you whether you have been successful or not. If successful we will move forward and offer you the position!

You will receive your onboarding information from our HR administration team including contract and new starter pack, this highlights the benefits, policies and ED&I information.

Then before you are due to start your manager will reach out to discuss your first week, they create their own onboarding process as it varies role to role.

This is then followed by the learning and development induction, which is two days covering core training which includes:

• Introduction to Arriva Rail London (ARL)
• Equality, Diversity and Inclusion training
• Railway critical safety training, fatigue training, and a special guest from the business across various divisions from the business. Post-training you will be required to complete various mandatory training modules
